Peri-oral Rejuvenation

Dr Olha Vorodyukhina, an experienced dental surgeon and medical aesthetics practitioner, explores a 360° approach to regenerative patient care and skin health using Dermapen 4®, Dp Dermaceuticals™, and Dp SYNERGIST, combining facial anatomy, precision microneedling, and regenerative synergies to address the peri-oral region's unique challenges.

In this episode's highlights, get some of the key insights discussed, including:

  • Understand the peri-oral landscape: Explore the facial anatomy and characteristics of the peri-oral region, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, uneven texture, enlarged pores and dehydrated or dull skin.

  • Master pinpoint precision: Discover how skin-needling depth, mechanism and chemical considerations can influence outcomes, and how modern digital technology has refined mechanical regeneration.

  • Unlock the power of regenerative synergies: Explore the science behind combining precision skin-needling with carefully selected regenerative actives, including considerations around molecular weight, pH, chemical form, sterility, preservation and product suitability.

  • Develop a more comprehensive approach to patient care: Gain practical insights through patient case studies and explore how informed patients look beyond individual treatments toward longer-term goals, optimisation, and maintenance.

Peri-oral rejuvenation: Synergistic protocols bridging dentistry and aesthetics

Want to take a deep dive into the topic? Read the information below for more

DermapenWorld hosted an insightful global webinar featuring dental surgeon and medical aesthetic practitioner Dr Olha Vorodyukhina, hosted by Kelly Tobin, Global Sales Director for DermapenWorld. The session explored the evolving landscape of non-surgical aesthetics, covering peri-oral rejuvenation through synergistic protocols that unite dental expertise with advanced skin health solutions.

In aesthetic medicine, patient preferences are shifting away from immediate reliance on injectables toward long-term skin health, vitality, and regenerative medicine. Achieving harmonised, natural results in delicate regions requires treating the underlying tissue health alongside surface concerns.

Understanding how multi-platform technologies work alongside targeted topical therapies lets practitioners address complex aesthetic and medical presentations safely and effectively.

  • The peri-oral zone is uniquely susceptible to premature aging due to its complex anatomy and high mobility. A primary structural factor is the thinner epidermal layer present as skin approaches the vermilion border. Additionally, repeated facial expressions and muscle movement constantly stress the area, accelerating fine lines, marionette lines, and textural degradation. Environmental and internal stressors, such as UV exposure, inflammation, and temperature fluctuations, further compromise the skin barrier.

Practitioners must carefully distinguish aesthetic aging concerns from underlying medical conditions to select safe, appropriate treatment paths. Standard aesthetic issues include wrinkles, acne scarring, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and uneven texture, all of which respond well to combination microneedling and active skin therapies.

In contrast, medical conditions require tailored medical attention or may be contraindicated. Angular cheilitis presents as inflamed, cracking skin at the mouth corners caused by bacterial or fungal overgrowth, often stemming from dental occlusion issues that require prescription topicals and dental intervention. Perioral dermatitis and eczema involve inflamed, dry, or flaky skin triggered by irritants, gut inflammation, or prolonged steroid use; these require barrier-restoring topicals and red light therapy and demand extreme caution with microneedling. Finally, Herpes Labialis (cold sores) involves viral lesions and represents an absolute contraindication for microneedling and active topicals like retinoids, requiring antiviral treatment instead.

  • To address these multi-layered challenges, Dr Vorodyukhina presented a 360-degree treatment framework utilising three primary solutions in sequence. First, the Dp SYNERGIST™ multi-platform device decongests, exfoliates, and hydrates the skin. Second, the Dermapen 4® microneedling pen creates micro-channels to deliver targeted active ingredients into dermal layers. Third, EXO-SKIN™ synthetic exosomes deliver concentrated cellular messengers to promote rapid repair and collagen synthesis.

The Dp SYNERGIST™ multi-platform system enables comprehensive non-invasive skin preparation and rejuvenation. Its ultrasound scraper cleanses congested pores, blackheads, and whiteheads prior to deeper clinical procedures. The Aqua T&S handpiece utilises a built-in hydrogen water generator to produce a powerful antioxidant solution that neutralises free radicals, protects the skin barrier, and soothes reactive skin conditions. Additional modalities, such as electroporation and double-lift radiofrequency, enhance active ingredient penetration and support facial firming.

Precision microneedling with Dermapen 4® and the Dp Dermaceuticals MG Collection™ delivers targeted nourishment to the dermis. The Dermapen 4® device operates with high speed and precision, creating up to 1,920 micro-channels per second at depths ranging from 0.2 mm to 3.0 mm. This allows precise delivery to the epidermal, dermal, or hypodermal layers, depending on the condition being treated. These channels carry specialised Meso-Glides (MG Collection™) containing HylaFuse™ Technology—a combination of encapsulated hyaluronic acids of varying molecular weights—and Calcium Hydroxyapatite to safely nourish deeper tissues. Formulations include MG-BL™ for brightening hyperpigmentation, MG-CLR™ with salicylic acid at pH 4.0 for clarifying acne-prone skin, MG-R-ER™ for scar revision and collagen activation, and MG-HA35 / HA35+™ for intense structural hydration.

To avoid the variable efficacy of plant or animal exosomes and the legal or immunological risks of human-derived exosomes, DermapenWorld utilises lab-synthesised biomimetic exosomes. These synthetic exosomes mimic natural cellular communication without triggering immune rejection. Both the clinical formulations and homecare solutions, including EXO-SKIN™ Serum and EXO-SKIN™ Moisturiser, contain 47% active exosomes, plus growth factors, peptides, ceramides, and vitamins B and C to accelerate cellular repair.

  • Practitioners can safely execute same-day combination protocols within a single session. Clinicians can deep-clean and exfoliate using Dp SYNERGIST™, follow with Dermapen 4® microneedling and EXO-SKIN™ serums, and finish with red LED light therapy. This saves patients time while accelerating visible aesthetic outcomes.

In clinical applications, these protocols have successfully addressed complex structural and traumatic scar cases. Documentatin shows significant restoration of tissue elasticity, volume, and skin smoothness in patients with surgical scarring from congenital cleft lip, without requiring dermal fillers.

Biomimetic exosomes combined with micro-channelling provide a safe solution for severely compromised, sun-damaged, or mature skin (ages 60+) where heat-based devices or injectables are contraindicated or risky. Furthermore, the "dental hygiene" analogy reinforces patient compliance: just as visiting a hygienist every three months fails without daily brushing, clinical skin procedures require structured daily homecare like EXO-SKIN™ to maintain results.

Transform your practice with DermapenWorld

Integrating the Dermapen 4® microneedling platform alongside the Dp SYNERGIST™ device and EXO-SKIN™ biomimetic exosome range provides an evidence-based, 360-degree approach to peri-oral and total facial rejuvenation. By shifting focus toward non-surgical, regenerative modalities, you empower your patients' skin to repair and restore itself safely and naturally.

This synergistic technology is an essential addition to modern medical aesthetic and dental practices looking to elevate clinical outcomes, increase practice retention, and deliver long-lasting patient satisfaction.
