PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Smooth, pretty, young looking skin, every woman wants it.
3 On Your Side Health Reporter Stephanie Stahl shows you the newest technology
to help get it.
Donna Diseroad has been struggling with her skin for years, acne scars. And now
that she’s 45, some wrinkles around her eyes. But she says her complexion is smoother
now, after a treatment with the Dermapen.
“I only had one treatment so far, and I really feel like it really has helped,”
said Donna.
Dermapen works with 11 tiny, vibrating needles that penetrate the skin. But patients
say it doesn’t hurt. A numbing cream is used before the treatment.
“You don’t feel like it’s a bunch of needles going in your skin at all,” said
Donna.
“It plumps up the skin from the inside out,” said Linda Tagliamonte, an Aesthetician
at the Center for Women’s Health in Langhorne. She says Dermapen works by slightly
injuring the skin.
“Our skin has to produce collagen in order to heal. We do this at the cellular
level. And we’re in return building up collagen to plump and smooth the skin,”
said Tagliamonte.
She says before and after photos from Dermapen show how it can improve stretch
marks, acne scars and wrinkles.
“After one treatment, I did notice a difference in some of the fading of the lip
lines in the lip,” said Deb Jones, who works at the Women’s Center. She wanted
to tighten the skin around her lips and eyes, but she was initially worried about
the needles.
“I have zero tolerance for pain. It’s the sensation of feeling maybe like something
rubbing your skin,” said Deb.
Tagliamonte says Dermapen produces results similar to laser resurfacing, but it’s
quicker, easier and cheaper.
“It really is a revolutionary new device, that is going to help so many people,”
said Tagliamonte.
